The Waiting Game
Posted on Tuesday, February 12th, 2008
It’s Tuesday, February 12th. Only 6 days ago, I submitted an application to write with a local newspaper. I emailed my submission (which is becoming more and more common, thankfully – I just read last night that the cost of postage is going up in May…AGAIN!). I went through a short paranoia that it hadn’t actually sent. I checked my sent mail, checked the email address for a fourth or fifth (or twelfth) time and found it was correct. Then I sat at my desk, staring at my email inbox. I hit “check mail.” There was no response from the local newspaper. YET. The deadline for applications was Friday, a mere four days ago. I need to distract myself. I’ll send out more submissions, and the postage will probably put me overbudget this month, and we’ll have to forgo the gallon of milk that will be necessary the day before payday. But when I get a rejection – a bittersweet token that proves I send out submissions – it will be worth it. I think.
