Making the Most of Safeway Shopping
I’ve been limiting my shopping lately to a few stores for a couple of reasons. The first is that it’s summer, so I’ve got kids at home. The second is that I also work from home, writing copy for other websites as well as my own, along with finishing up the Second Edition of Live Cheap and Free.
One of the stores I’ve been sticking with is Safeway, and the last couple of weeks have been pretty good due to the many ways you can save money there. The last time I went, I had to get an override (I love that), and received $11 in catalinas. Here are a few extra ways to save some pennies that don’t require a lot of effort!
- Load eCoupons onto your Safeway Card. These electronic coupons are above and beyond any paper coupons you have, and they come automatically off your bill. You’ll have to register your Safeway card a couple of times, so get it out and have it ready. The Safeway link above has links to Shortcuts, Cellfire and P&G eSaver.
- If you want, you can register your Safeway card with Shortcuts, Cellfire and P&G eSaver separately from this website.
- The Safeway website also has printable store coupons you can print at home in addition to eCoupons.
- Safeway often has coupons books in addition to their ads. Right now, there are MDA coupon books at the front of the store, and there’s also one in the meat section near the seafood counter with coupons good on many products, and they don’t expire until 9/23 (I believe).
- Match the store ads and coupons with manufacturer coupons. If you don’t know if there’s a manufacturer coupon available for the product you want, go to Sunday Coupon Preview and type the product in the search box – if there’s a manufacturer coupon, the date will come up.
- Make sure to clip the double coupons from the ad and take them with you.
And if there’s something you want that the store runs out of, don’t forget to get a raincheck. If you don’t like rainchecks, talk with a manager about substituting a similar item. Happy shopping!
