Cheap Skiing With Kids

Sometimes it does pay to have kids. Skiing is an expensive sport, so when I say “Cheap Skiing With Kids,” this is a relative term. It is, however, the absolute best deal I could find for our family of four to ski Mt. Hood.
My kids are seven and four years old, so they’re ready for some skiing lessons. When I first looked into the cost of our family going for a day, it broke down to $105 per child for a half day lesson and $130 for a whole day…times 2 kids. Then for Husband and me, it would be $64 x 2. The grand total came to about $340, and this didn’t include gas or food.
That just wasn’t going to work with our budget. So I kept digging around, and I found the Twilight Kids Club (scroll all the way down to the bottom).
Before I get carried away about this great deal, there are some considerations. The youngest age for this program is 4, and the oldest is 12. You need to like, or at least be able to live with, night skiing.
Now I can get carried away! Basically the Twilight Kids Club is a 4-hour block of time where kids receive a skiing (or snowboarding for older kids) lesson for $65. Rentals are an extra $5, and they’ll feed your kid for $8 each. We decided to go with that, so the total for each kid was $78. We enrolled two kids, which equaled $156.
But what about Husband and me, you ask? That’s the best part – they give one adult night skiing lift ticket per kid! Two kids = two free adult lift tickets for night skiing. All for a grand total of $156!
I was a bit nervous about the whole deal, thinking it couldn’t be that good. But it really was. We got to Mt. Hood Meadows at about 1:30 and got them registered (you can register as early as 1:00, but no later than 2:30). We got their rentals and went out to practice a little, which was fun. Then we stopped at the bathroom and dropped them off at 2:50ish.
The sun was out, there was no wind and no snow. The conditions were great, and we were skiing free for 4 hours!!! Thanks, kids!

Thank you!
I work in the CLC, we love to hear this kind stuff. I’m glad you and your family had a successful fun-filled night.
Meadows charges too much….It shouldn’t be more than $50@ for the whole day. Night skiing is not practical with young children. But, I guess wrapping it all up by 7pm isn’t too late. Meadows’ prices always seem to be out of reachwesthead
