Cheap or Free Holiday Activities This Week

If you’re in the Portland area, check out these cheap or free activities for some Christmas fun, brought to you by Portland on the Cheap.

If you’ve ever wanted to see Zoo Lights at the Oregon Zoo, this week is the time to do it. It will be cold, no mistaking that, but on Tuesday admission is only $2 per person. POTC says: We called the Zoo and confirmed the following: $2 Tuesday is ALSO valid for the Zoo Lights from 5:00pm – 8:00pm! This is a GREAT deal. Fill a thermos with some hot tea or cocoa and bring a couple of snacks. There’s only one coffee kiosk that will probably have a long line – it will take FOREVER – so pack in your own, along with heavy coats, hats and gloves!

Another cold activity that’s well worth the effort is the annual parade of decorated ships, and it starts Wednesday. POTC says: First night of the Christmas Ships Parade, now in its 55th year. View the ships along the Columbia River by Jantzen Beach or along the Willamette River from RiverPlace to Milwaukie. See web site for viewing locations. The ships run December 9th – 20th.
